On The Move wins Womex 2023 Professional Excellence Award

Womex’s Professional Excellence award honours exceptional achievements of an individual, group or an organisation in music. This year, the award goes to On The Move, a network and platform providing information and ressources on international mobility.

On the Move is a network and online platform that connects cultural workers of all disciplines concerned about international mobility. Drawing on the expertise of their network and partners, On the Move provides support and information such as extensive guides to institutions and opportunities in territories across the world; global listings of open project calls; mentoring schemes; data-driven research and analysis; and events, including the annual On The Move forum. All of these resources are free to access and regularly updated.

The heart of On the Move’s mission is the democratisation of international art: by sharing knowledge and tools, it ensures that arts do not become the sole reserve of the powerful and privileged. By giving more artists access to international mobility, the global arts community becomes fairer, more transparent and more sustainable. It also allows for specific help for artists who are disadvantaged within wider cultural spheres, such as disabled, minority ethnic or refugee artists.” On The Move

Working towards fairer, greener and more inclusive international mobility is essential in the cultural field. On The Move’s work is especially precious to the world music ecosystem that aims to bring more diversity to the musical realm, and is widely based on international cooperations and cultural exchanges from all over the globe.

In their commitment to providing this invaluable resource for artists and cultural professionals, On the Move opens the world to artists of all stripes.” Womex

After the challenges that international mobility faced during the Covid-19 pandemic, some countries are now facing the menace of anti-immigration political climate and cultural isolationism. In this context, facilitating international cultural mobility has never been so important.
