Le gouverneur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral d\u00e9p\u00each\u00e9 par Londres fait ouvrir Radio Omdurman \u00e0 l\u2019aube de la Seconde guerre mondiale pour diffuser une propagande pro-alli\u00e9e en arabe, sur le mod\u00e8le de <span class=\"caps\">BBC<\/span> Arabic ? Tr\u00e8s vite la haqiba en envahit les ondes et devient la bande originale du pays tout entier, cr\u00e9ant des \u00e9mules qui copient le \u00ab style Omdurman \u00bb. D\u2019origine nig\u00e9riane, introduite comme beaucoup d\u2019autres au chant par la r\u00e9citation du Coran, elle alterne chansons d\u2019amour et contenu plus politique, comme un \u00e9cho aux c\u00e9l\u00e8bres hakamat, chanteuses traditionnelles sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es dans le r\u00e9pertoire martial, et de mani\u00e8re plus contemporaine aux po\u00e8mes de la miliante <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hawa_Jah_Al_Rasoul\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hawa Ja\u2019 Al-Rassoul<\/a><\/strong>. Embl\u00e8me de l\u2019\u00e9poque, l\u2019\u00e9mission Rubu\u2019 Al Sudan diffuse des artistes repr\u00e9sentant la diversit\u00e9 culturelle du Soudan et contribue au renforcement d\u2019un sentiment national. Rock, pop, rythmes latinos entrent dans la danse avec Sayyid Khalifa et son <em>Mambo al Soudani<\/em>, tandis que le <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=Hl04-Ova1jw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">groupe Al Aqarib (Les Scorpions) s\u2019essaie au jazz<\/a><\/strong>. Khartoum est encore une ville tr\u00e8s cosmopolite, avec ses bo\u00eetes de nuit, ses dancings, ses caf\u00e9s, ses cin\u00e9mas, ses bars. En premi\u00e8re ligne, les musiciens peinent \u00e0 enregistrer et sont r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement arr\u00eat\u00e9s alors qu\u2019un climat de terreur \u00e0 partir du coup d\u2019\u00e9tat de 1989 bannit toute activit\u00e9 politique et r\u00e9duit la libert\u00e9 d\u2019expression \u00e0 n\u00e9ant. Beaucoup d\u2019artistes quittent le pays pendant que le r\u00e9gime n\u2019autorise d\u00e9sormais quasiment que chansons religieuses appelant \u00e0 la guerre sainte contre les populations du sud.
