Bassiste virtuose camerounais, St\u00e9phane Manga a d\u00e9but\u00e9 sa carri\u00e8re dans les cabarets et jazz clubs de Douala, o\u00f9 il h\u00e9rita de son surnom Kool Bass. Son nom devint incontournable \u00e0 partir de 1997, sollicit\u00e9 sur les tourn\u00e9es fran\u00e7aises d\u2019artistes comme le chanteur des Platters Roy Robi, Cheick Tidiane Seck, ou Dany Brown, parmi d\u2019autres grands noms du jazz et de la musique traditionnelle africaine. Apr\u00e8s une collaboration notable avec Manu Dibango en 2005, il se lance en solo quatre ans plus tard en sortant un premier album, point de d\u00e9part de ses explorations musicales.<\/p>\n

Makossa, zouk, fusions latines et sonorit\u00e9s afro-carib\u00e9ennes en tous genres gravitent alors autour du jazz \u00e9nergique de ce chef d\u2019orchestre qui sait s\u2019entourer des meilleurs musiciens internationaux. Qu\u2019il s\u2019agisse du pianiste martiniquais Mario Canonge, du guitariste fusion am\u00e9ricain Mike Stern, du batteur guadeloup\u00e9en Arnaud Dolmen, du saxophoniste fran\u00e7ais Baptiste Herbin ou de l\u2019autre pianiste franco-br\u00e9silien Leonardo Montana, tous apportent leur pierre \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9difice de cette musique qui se m\u00e9tisse naturellement au contact de chacun.<\/p>\n

Ce genre de dream-team est \u00e9galement \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre sur ce quatri\u00e8me album que St\u00e9phane a choisi de nommer Mangassiko<\/em>, forme contract\u00e9e de son nom et du rythme traditionnel binaire camerounais appel\u00e9 Assiko. Comme bande-annonce de cette nouvelle sortie, le musicien choisit le funky \u00ab Seven \u00bb, en collaboration avec la chanteuse am\u00e9ricaine Denise King, digne repr\u00e9sentante du son soul\/blues infus\u00e9 au gospel de Philadelphie. Un bel avant-go\u00fbt d\u2019un album vari\u00e9 et feel-good, qui contient aussi une reprise du classique Actual Proof<\/em> d\u2019Herbie Hancock que l\u2019on pourra d\u00e9couvrir le 15 mars.<\/p>\n
